2019 Christmas Home Tour

December 9, 2019

Welcome to our 2019 Christmas Home Tour! Traditions are a big part of what makes the Christmas season so special. For me, that includes Christmas decor and using the same items from year to year. So, my decor this year is very similar to last year – same stockings, garland, and nativity set. But, because I love to decorate, I had to change it up a bit. This year, I added more lights and more gold, and gave our house a Christmas “glow up.”

The most notable new addition to our decor this year is a second Christmas tree! My parents recently made their long-time dream come true and moved into a condo on the beach. With less space, they gave me all of their Christmas decor – including their old tree.

This second tree is our “fancy” tree. I used all gold ornaments and the same ribbon that is tied to the garland on our stairway. Our main tree is in our living room and decorated with all the ornaments our family has collected through the years.

The second tree is in our dining room, which I love because you can see it out the front windows and when you walk in the front door.

I kept the dining room table very simple this year. (You can see last year’s here.) I already had this galvanized metal canister, which I filled with small white poinsettias. I surrounded the container with gauzy cloth (just basic cheesecloth that I used to make napkins for Easter).

I went a little crazy with fairy lights this year and put some under the cloth to give it a little extra glow. I like these fairy lights because they operate on a timer, so I can set it and forget it.

The light this time of year is so soft and pretty, and our dining room just seems to glow throughout the day, especially with all the gold and white lights.

I didn’t make any changes to the stairway this year. I fell in love with this long leaf pine garland last year and still adore it. Of course, our kitty adores playing with the ribbons, too, so the bows don’t usually look like this.

One of the new decor items I purchased this year is this gold Advent candleholder. I tucked some trimmings that I picked up from the Christmas tree lot at Home Depot around the base.

The candleholder is the centerpiece of our breakfast nook table. I love how the gold patina of the candleholder picks up on the patina of our new wood bead light fixture.

For our front porch this year, I added new prelit garland over the front door. The bushel baskets on either side of the door were on clearance at Hobby Lobby for $3. I put three poinsettias in each basket. (I had to get creative to raise the poinsettias to the tops of the baskets. Inside each basket is an upside down flower pot encircled by an old beach towel, with the poinsettias sitting on top. To cover all that up, I tossed in some dried leaves from the yard. It’s all a bit precarious.)

I also wove battery-powered fairy lights through the wreaths that I bought for the windows last year. These all have a timer option, which makes it so easy to manage.

I love how an American flag looks during the holidays! I swapped out the Gator flag that we had up during football season for a new American flag. But, I’ll need to remember to re-hang the Gator flag before the Orange Bowl…
