In keeping with our neutral Christmas decor, our Christmas table this year has shades of cream and tan, lots of greenery, and glittering mercury glass with candles.

The center of the table is lined with branches clipped from real pine trees. You can get the tree trimmings for free from most places that sell real Christmas trees. Place them in a bucket of water when you get home to keep them fresh until you’re ready to use them.

The branches may curve up a bit, so you will want to trim them and then overlap the ends. Just keep adding branches until you achieve the fullness that you want.

The table is set with vintage Spode Christmas Tree plates that I received from family. I have only four place settings, so I mixed up the plates with my standard white china.

Instead of using placemats, I simply folded a fringed linen napkin and placed it beneath the plates.

Clear glass bottles of differing heights serve as candleholders for white candles (repurposing from our Easter table!).

Mercury glass votive candleholders add a little sparkle. (I got mine from Hobby Lobby, but I love this set from Pottery Barn.)

My mom bought this wooden Nativity set when I was a child and passed it on to me a few years ago. They were originally all different primary colors, which didn’t quite go with our neutral decor. So, I spray painted them all a creamy white.

Here’s a closer look. I covered the faces with painters tape before spray painting and used gold paint for the three wise men. I love white poinsettias and placed them throughout the house this season. The “planters” are just ribbed galvanized buckets.

The scene is set for what will hopefully be a very Merry Christmas! As my boys said (when trying to butter me up the other day), Christmas isn’t about the gifts – it’s about spending time with each other.
