Dining Room

Renovation of dated 80s dining room into cottage style dining room

I love blue. It is in every room of our house and is the thread that ties the spaces together. But this blue on the dining room walls just wasn’t very appetizing. And the light fixture was just so big, it weighed down the room. (I can’t tell you how many times I walked into it before we took it down.)

The dining room benefitted greatly from the lighter white oak floors. With an airier light fixture and a more neutral wall color, the space now feels like somewhere you’d want to hang out, drink wine, and eat a delicious meal (that hopefully was not cooked by me).

After dining room white table

The previous owners left behind a lot of random things in the house: dirty laundry, stuffed animals, holiday decorations, framed posters of the human anatomy. But, the very best thing that we discovered was this arched wooden door with perfectly chippy paint. It was stacked up with some scrap wood in the storage area beneath the house. It finally found a new home in the corner of the dining room, where it balances out the door to a storage closet.

I love to decorate this room for the holidays, and have enjoyed creating tablescapes for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring, and Easter.
