The azaleas are blooming and the AC is running, which means it’s spring in Florida. With Easter around the corner, I decided it was time to decorate our dining room for the new season. For this year’s tablescape, I was inspired by brass candlesticks that I found thrifting and the ferns growing abundantly in our yard.

For over a year, I had been looking for a large piece of art to hang in our living room. When I finally found “the one,” it was $800! That was definitely outside my budget, so I thought I’d take a shot at making my own painting, inspired by the designer piece.
I’m sharing the details of how I made my own large DIY framed abstract landscape art for less than $60.

As soon as we discovered this house – in its neglected and overgrown state – I dreamt of painting it white with black shutters. I envisioned Christmas wreaths hanging from all the windows. This year, my dreams for our Christmas front porch came true.

With all the craziness of the holiday season, I wanted our home to have a festive – but calm – feel this year (or as calm as it can be with two little boys hopped up on candy canes and the Christmas spirit). So for our Christmas decor, I chose neutral tones (creams, whites, and tans), natural fabrics (burlap and linen), lots of greenery, white poinsettias, and touches of gold.
I hope you enjoy this tour of our neutral holiday home!
Staying in the Loop!
I know it’s not even Christmas, but I’m already thinking about New Year’s resolutions. Next year, I’m hoping to finally complete a number of my half-finished projects, like the boys’ room, the office, and the laundry room. (This makes me think I should add “handyman” to my Christmas list…) And, of course, I’ll be sharing my progress on those projects with all of you!
In the meantime, between blog posts, there are other ways to stay in the loop with Our Hammock House that I wanted to share with you:
DIY Chicken Wire Christmas Card Display
To me, one of the very best parts of the Christmas season is receiving Christmas cards. I just love seeing all the photos of my family and friends and their kids (and pets). I used to tape up the cards around my back door. But last year, I made a new chicken wire card display, so that by the time Christmas rolled around, it was as though I had a giant photo collage of all my favorite people.
This was a fairly easy project that we (this was definitely a two-person job) knocked out during the course of one football game.
A Thanksgiving Tablescape with Greenery and Pumpkins
It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner! It’s one of my favorite holidays (food, family, and a four-day weekend – what more could you want?) In terms of Thanksgiving decor, pilgrims and turkeys aren’t really my thing. So, I used pumpkins, greenery from my yard, and candles to create a simple Thanksgiving tablescape.
